Another innovation in concrete technology over the last number
of years is a product called Controlled Density Fill or Flowable
Fill. The key application for this product is its use as backfill
for trenches. Notice that it is not called concrete. This is because
it is a low strength product that can be excavated at a later date
with a shovel or backhoe. The significant advantage in using CDF
for trench backfilling rather than conventional methods is labor
safety and the savings in labor costs due to its flowability. It
effortlessly flows in and around the pipe or conduit being backfilled
and is ready to be paved over in 24 hours.
An additional concept in terms of flowable flow is to use it in
conjunction with color to effectively identify various types of
underground utilities. Please call us if we can help you take advantage
of this technology for your current or next project. ESG
