Traffic

Before Eugene Sand & Gravel filed its application with the county, a professional traffic engineer conducted a traffic impact study. That analysis shows that the existing transportation system can handle the increased traffic without causing any significant delays for other motorists.

We take your concerns seriously
In our door-to-door meetings, many people expressed concerns about the impact of trucks on Lone Pine Drive. Because of those concerns, we designed a new haul road for our project that's as far away from most of the houses as we could get. It will be built parallel to the transmission lines south of Lone Pine Drive. This way our trucks can stay away from Lone Pine Drive and the houses along that street.

Effects on traffic
The heaviest southbound traffic on River Road is during the 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. period. So we don't increase delays during that time, we recommend that trucks be prohibited from leaving the mining site during this 30-minute period.

Initially, we only plan a mining operation at the River Road location. Dump trucks will haul rock from the River Road site to Eugene Sand & Gravel's Delta Highway site where it will be cleaned, crushed and processed.

A few years after mining begins at the River Road site, a rock crusher and other processing equipment will be installed at the new location. During the third phase of the project, a ready-mix concrete plant and asphalt plant will be added, so over time the mix of trucks leaving the site will change.

Traffic patterns-(changed because of neighborhood input)
Ninety percent of the trucks leaving the River Road mining site will head south towards Eugene. Because of a neighborhood meeting, we redesigned our primary haul route to West Beacon Drive to Northwest Expressway to Beltline Road. By using this route our trucks will avoid the Santa Clara area on River Road. Because of existing heavy traffic volumes on River Road the Northwest Expressway is an attractive alternative. By using the Northwest Expressway, we can reduce the impact on River Road traffic. (Click Here for haul route map)

New turn lanes proposed
Initially our plan calls for a new deceleration lane northbound on River Road. This will allow Eugene Sand & Gravel trucks to move out of traffic as they slow down before turning into the plant site. Eventually, as traffic on River Road increases, a center turn lane could be added. Each of these designs has been planned with safety as the primary concern - safety for you and for our truck drivers.
