Air Quality
We are all concerned about the air we breathe.
In order to insure clean air we have designed a plan that will minimize
any dust from our operation. We know our plan will work because
we do it now in our current operations.
Controlling dust with water
The aggregates extracted will be saturated or wet, so there isn't
any dust created by excavating. During processing, water sprays
will be used at various points on the crushing, screening and conveying
equipment to eliminate dust. Haul roads on the site will be watered
on a regular basis, with the frequency increased during dry or hot
weather. The access road will be watered during dry weather, or
hard surfaced. Paved surfaces will be swept or watered daily during
dry weather.
Air quality permits
Eugene Sand & Gravel must apply for and receive permits from
a variety of agencies before it can begin production at the River
Road site. Among those permits are air quality permits issued by
Lane Regional Air Pollution Authority (LRAPA) based on standards
set by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). These permits
set strict limits on air quality.
Eugene Sand & Gravel has an excellent track record in complying
with standards that ensure clean air for all of us to breathe. Whenever
there have been concerns or complaints voiced by our neighbors on
Delta Highway, we've acted quickly to address those problems.
Dust on crops
There will be no significant dust impact on our neighbors because
of our tested plan. Farmers and neighbors near the River Road site
already complain about dust on their crops and their property. Our
gravel operation will be much more tightly regulated than existing
agricultural uses on that land. The fact is that no agency regulates
agricultural dust while our gravel operation will face strict scrutiny
by LRAPA.
We know we can control the dust from our gravel operation. We
do it now.
